Teen therapy is psychotherapy specifically tailored to the developmental, emotional, and social needs of adolescents aged 13 to 18. The teenage years bring unique pressures — academic stress, social media, identity exploration, peer dynamics, and family conflict. At Oakville Therapy by Counselling & Co., our registered therapists understand the adolescent brain and use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, and motivational interviewing to help teens develop emotional regulation, healthy coping strategies, and self-advocacy. Sessions are confidential and available in-person in Oakville or via secure virtual video across Ontario.
Our Approach
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) adapted for adolescents — addresses anxious thoughts, avoidance patterns, and low mood
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills — builds distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness
- Motivational interviewing — empowers teens to explore their own motivation for change without pressure
- Identity-affirming therapy — supportive exploration of gender, sexuality, values, and self-concept
- Safety planning and crisis support — structured protocols for teens experiencing self-harm or suicidal ideation
